Brantwood was the former home of Victorian writer and artist John Ruskin, from 1872 to 1900. It is beautifully situated with views across Coniston Water. Displays unique collection of paintings by Ruskin and his 'Circle', his furniture, books and personal items. Video, Bookshop, Craft Gallery, Restaurant. There are estate walks around the 250 acres of wonderful woodland, lakeshore meadows and moorland hilltop. The gardens include the famous Harbour Walk, and Professor's Garden where Ruskin experimented with native flowers and fruit, and are filled with daffodils, rhododendrons and azaleas in Spring. New: native herb and physic garden.
