Conishead Priory

Brantwood was the former home of Victorian writer and artist John Ruskin, from 1872 to 1900. It is beautifully situated with views across Coniston Water. Displays unique collection of paintings by Ruskin and his 'Circle', his furniture, books and personal items. Video, Bookshop, Craft Gallery, Restaurant. Conishead Priory is home to Manjushri Buddhist Centre. It is an excellent example of Georgian Gothic Architecture and has been carefully restored by the community of 95 residents. Open to the public at weekends 2 - 5pm and available for visitors to stay at a reasonable rate. Meditation classes and retreats are held throughout the year. There is also a unique temple that has been recently finished and is open to the public during the opening times or by appointment.
