Cragside is the creation of the first Lord Armstrong, who transformed a bare and rugged hillside into an extravaganza of rhododendrons and exotic trees. You can step back in time in the magnificent house, which still contains most of its original contents - including equipment used to make Cragside the first house in the world to be lit by hydro-electricity! Across the valley is the terraced formal garden. You can visit the beautiful Orchard House, where individual trees are turned to catch the sun, or stroll beside the dahlias and carpet bedding. You can also explore the rock garden, one of Europe's largest, and the valley garden and Pinetum.
