Hutton in the Forest

This beautiful historic house dates from mediaeval times and has been in Lord Inglewood's family since 1605. The house has been built round a mediaeval Pole Tower and developed over many centuries. Notable are the Gallery of the 1630s, the classical façade and Hall of the 1680s, a suite of 18th century rooms and grand Victorian rooms. There are fine collections of family portraits, tapestries, ceramics and English furniture. The Arts and Crafts movement is well represented by William Morris wallpaper and metalwork from the Keswick School of Industrial Arts. The beautiful walled garden built in the 1730s has a large collection of herbaceous plants and fruit trained to the walls. Fine topiary is found on the terraces surrounding the House. A woodland walk circles the grounds with a great variety of specimen trees identifiable from a leaflet.
