Owlpen Manor, home of the Mander family, is one of the most romantic Tudor manor houses in the country, and deeply haunted. Set in a picturesque valley among bluebell woods right under the Cotswold hills, it has formal terraced gardens and magnificent yews of the 17th century, and contains unique textiles and family collections. The house dates from 1450 to 1616, with some Cotswold Arts and Crafts restoration of 1926. There is a watermill of 1726 with a newly-created mill pond walk, and a licensed restaurant serving lunches and cream teas daily in the medieval tithe barn. 'Owlpen - ah, what a dream is there!', wrote Vita Sackville-West.
