Pitshanger Manor & Gallery comprises the restored Regency villa, once owned by Sir John Soane, Architect and Surveyor to the Bank of England, together with a sympathetically designed extension dating from 1940, which now serves as West London's largest contemporary art gallery. Soane rebuilt the Manor using highly individual ideas in design and decoration. The Manor is constantly being restored and also houses a large collection of Victorian Martinware pottery. The gallery extension, with stained glass domed ceiling, was conceived bearing in mind Soane's preoccupation with light and space.
