Threave Estate & Garden

Threave Garden: is delightful in all seasons. At 26 ha (64 a), it is best known for its spectacular springtime daffodils (nearly 200 varieties), but herbaceous beds are colourful in summer and trees and heather garden are striking in autumn. The Victorian house (not open to the public) is home to the Trust's School of Practical Gardening, offering a one-year training course for students who already possess some horticultural experience. Guided walks and amateur gardening classes available. Visitor Centre with exhibition. New Plant Centre. Threave Estate: provides a good example of integrated management of the land, taking account of agriculture, forestry and nature conservation. Marked walks include a 2.5 km estate trail which guides the visitor through this variety of landscapes. The estate is a wildfowl refuge and the wetland is important for its plants, breeding wading birds and wintering wildfowl. Bird hides provide good cover to enjoy the activity of this wildlife. New this year is the Countryside Centre in the old stables, highlighting nature conservation, horticulture, forestry and agriculture at Threave. The Centre offers an integrated interpretation of the property and will clearly illustrate the work of the ranger service
